An update from Kate
Well hello there!
I’m Kate Samuelson, The Know’s new Editor-in-Chief, and I wanted to take the opportunity to properly introduce myself to you all. OG Editor Holly has handed me the reins after a jam-packed four years, in which time she helped transform this company from a concept into the community-driven, conscientious media brand it is today. Holly leaves intimidatingly big boots to fill - but I’m excited by the challenge.
A little about myself: I’ve got seven years’ experience as a journalist and writer/editor, with stints at Time magazine, ActionAid and (most recently) The Week, where I worked as global newsletter editor. I also write my own weekly newsletter, Cheapskate, where I handpick the best free events happening in London each week. You may have guessed that I’m pretty obsessed with newsletters as a format. Emails can be so personal and immediate - and they come with big opportunities to innovate.
Outside of work (and as you may imagine from my side hustle), I can’t resist searching out great deals and soaking up as much culture as my bank balance allows. You’ll often catch me at a free exhibition (this was a recent favourite), peering down from my seat in the gods (AKA the cheapest tickets) at the theatre, or rinsing my ClassPass credits at a Frame or 1Rebel pilates session.
The Know would be nothing without its incredible community and I know I have a big responsibility to you - our loyal readers - to maintain everything you love about our newsletter. Big transitions may have happened behind the scenes, but we’ll still be delivering you the news every weekday, helping you feel amused, uplifted and in the know (pardon the pun) in our condensed - but not condescending - style.
And at this exciting period of change for The Know, I’d like to ask you: what do you think we could do differently? Are there certain stories you’d like to see more of - or topics you think we cover too much? In these times of news saturation and doomscrolling, how can we improve your relationship with global goings-on? I’d love to hear from you.
