Your LinkedIn essentials kit

We’ve all heard of the gender pay gap. But there’s another barrier you might not have noticed: the network gap.

In the UK, women are 27% less likely than men to have a strong LinkedIn network, which could mean fewer opportunities and less visibility.

The good news? This is a gap you can close. Whether you’re a brand or an individual, here are some top tips from Dr Nimrita S. Bassi, CEO & Founder of LinkedIn agency Marketing Essentials Lab.

🧍‍♀️ Tips for your personal profile

🔗 Connections
Don’t just scroll – be intentional. Pick the companies you’d love to work with. Then find the actual people who make decisions there (2–3 is plenty) and connect. Ten new connections a week might not sound like much, but over a year? That’s 500+ warm contacts.

🗞️ Content
DMs can open a door, but content makes people invite you in. One thoughtful post a week is enough to stay top of mind. Post a mix of content to keep your profile fresh. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Thought Leadership → Share insights that make people think, “They know their stuff.”

  • Human Stories → Wins, mistakes, lessons learned — things people can actually relate to.

  • Pitch Posts → A clear, non-spammy way of showing what you do and how it helps.

💬 Community
Your network isn’t just who you know, it’s who knows you. Show up in conversations, leave comments that add something real, and make your profile crystal clear. Five good comments a week can do more than a hundred “likes.”

🏢Ideas for companies

🗞️ Content
Your brand page shouldn’t feel like a brochure. Rotate between:

  • Thought Leadership → Data, trends, or insights that position your brand as the expert.

  • Human Stories → Employee spotlights, customer successes, or moments that make your brand relatable.

  • Pitch Posts → A simple, confident showcase of what you offer.

  • Weekly posts keep you visible without burning out your audience (or your marketing team).

💬 Community
Act like a participant, not a spectator. Comment on industry discussions, join trending conversations, and engage with partners or clients online. A few smart interactions each week can open doors that ads can’t.
